Sailor Saturn

The Final Assembly

This is a picture of the leg after the boot has been painted.  I used masking tape and plastic wrap to protect the upper half of the leg before spraying the boot base color.  The boot laces were painted by hand with a flat black color.  This was tedious and difficult because some contortion with the brush was required to reach the undersides of the laces.  The paint had to flow properly into hidden areas so it was thinned appropriately.
This picture shows the initial assembly of the two legs.  Glue bond strength can sometimes be deceptive.  The bond can be brittle because the paint may peel away from the resin.  I am beginning to think that the paint needs to be scratched and removed in the area of the bond before gluing.  I tested this bond after 24 hours by using reasonable but not excessive force to confirm the strength.
This is a close-up picture of the parts after gluing.  Pieces never fit perfectly.  This model fit together very well, however a glued seam does look different from a masked and painted line.

This picture shows the seam area after it was touched up with paint.  Although it was not strictly required as the skirt would hide this area, I applied a touch of pearlescent white paint all around the bond seam to fill the crack.  It was impossible to get the brush completely between the legs, however.
This picture shows the legs with the skirt attached.  The skirt did not sit flat on the top of the legs as intended, so the gap was filled with super glue.  Fitting of final parts never seems to be quite the same as dry fitting.

This picture shows the complete assembly of the top half of the model.  The plan was to attach the top half to the bottom half and then fit the accessory items.  However, the top could not be fit on the bottom because the right arm would not slide down beside the skirt, possibly because of the slight fit problem described above. To fix this, both arms were carefully detached at the shoulders, then the top was glued to the bottom and the arms were re-attached when the body was assembled.

This is Sailor Saturn, finished and complete.
